To
name something or someone is to give it Magickal power. Your name is your unique
signature and can be incorporated into a talisman to personalise it or it be
converted to its own numbers or motto via numerology and Gematria. You can pick
a Magickal name for yourself (or have one bestowed upon you). You can ensure
that your new child has a fitting name by choosing one in a more Magickal way
than just by flipping through a baby book or giving the baby the same name as
everyone else of that generation, just because it's fashionable. The best way
of ensuring a name is Magickally correct, really, is to ask me.
I
don't intend to create an alphabetical index of names here. Such things exist
already. I am, however, interested in writing more about names in a Magickal
way.
So,
if you want to know about your name or would like to choose a suitable name
for your new baby, contact me. If
you wish to know about Personal Name Analysis, please email
me for details and fees, or if you need to write to me by post, send a couple
of stamps with your letter, to Seldiy Bate, BCM AKADEMIA, LONDON, WC1N 3XX UK.
Here
are a few thoughts on the names of people in my life or who have contacted me
recently:
HELEN:
A Helen I worked with on TV always found it funny that whenever we did stuff
about viewers' names, I I would remind her that the name Helen meant a basket.
She interpreted this as a "basket case"! Helen really does mean a
basket, but it's a special kind of basket, as it was an Ancient Greek basket
in which were placed sacred offerings to the Moon Goddess (who also could be
referred to as Helen). The most famous Greek Helen, of course, was Helen of
Troy. But she was hatched out of an egg, so maybe she was a bit of a
basket case, as well as being the most beautiful woman in the Ancient Hellenic
World.
GILLIAN or JILL:
Probably derived from Roman Juliana and appropriate for somebody born in July.
But the Jill of the nursery rhyme (Jack and Jill) comes from the Nordic name,
Bil. Hyuki and Bil, two young children, were stolen by the Moon when they climbed
up a sacred hill to fetch the Magickal Song-Mead. Bil remains in the Moon to
this day and is invoked by poets looking for inspiration or women who want to
be made beautiful. A jill, of course, is a lady ferret. Make of that what you
will!
JULIA, JULIUS, JULIAN
are all from the same source. Suitable for someone born in July (Cancer or Leo).
The month July was named by Julius Caesar, after himself, Julius being derived
from a Roman family name and meaning youthful, or possibly hairy; according
to some sources, Julius Caesar was actually a balding geezer, but maybe his
mummy thought it was a nice name anyway.
MICHAEL:
The Archangel of Fire, Guardian of the South. An appropriate name in its many
versions, including Michaela or Michelle for girls, for any of the Fire Signs
(Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) or anyone with the Fire Element strong and well-aspected
in their Birthchart. NOTa good choice for a Fire-afflicted natal Chart!
Michael (pronounced Mi-kha-el) is invoked for protection and in Angelic Magick,
when energy or speed is required. There are many Mikes in the recording industry.
QUIRINE:
A latest winner in my competition, Quirine writes: " My name is a family
name - my mother, grandmother, and great- gran all have it. My Mum is from Holland
but it's a pretty unusual name there too. I think originally it derives from
Quirinus, who has a brief mention in the Bible. I love my name, partly for
the family links and partly because it makes me feel unique." Quirinus
is a Roman God, whose sacred plant is the myrtle and whose festival, the Quirinalia,
was celebrated on February 17th; so it is a good name for an Aquarian. A Japanese
version, Kirin (arbitrary spelling) exists, but I do not think there is much
connection and there is also supposed to be a stone called a quirin, which the
Ancients said would be found in the nest of a lapwing, and which made people
tell the truth.
